Yota postpones LTE launch in Moscow

PDFPrintE-mail

RBC, 06.02.2012, Moscow 11:59:14.Mobile Internet operator Scartel, which provides services under Yota brand, said it had postponed the launch of its LTE network in Moscow and Moscow region from March until September 2012, RBC Daily reported today.

Scartel already operates a WiMAX network and has failed to meet the deadline for upgrading its equipment in order to switch to the LTE standard, a source said. The company may also lack funding, since it recently downsized its IT staff.

Yota was set to become Russia's first LTE operator, but the company lacks stable funding to roll out a new network and could be left behind by Russia's incumbent telecommunications operator Rostelecom, which intends to deploy its LTE network in spring 2012.
